Pirates, Lightning, Knights Roll to 2-0
September 24, 2009
After two weeks only three teams hold 2-0 records in the 2009 season. Las Vegas and Portland stand together atop the Pacific Division, while New York jumped ahead of the crowd in the Eastern Division.
In the Central Division, four teams sit tied at 1-1, with South Bend looking up from their 0-2 spot.
Florida RB Chris Johnson was blanked last week, but his 29 points led the Flamingos to a 75-27 thrashing of North Carolina and earned him Player of the Week honors for Week 2. Other notable scoring performances include: Las Vegas RB Frank Gore (19 points); Washington RB Ronnie Brown (15 points); Portland QB Philip Rivers (15 points); New York QB Drew Brees (14 points); Novato WR Marques Colston (14 points); Detroit PK Nate Kaeding (14 points). For notable matchups in Week 3, San Diego hosts a Novato team looking for their first win in this Pacific Division battle. The Firesouls hold a 9-3 advantage over the Storm since 2003, including a seven-game win streak from 2003 to 2006. In an Eastern Division battle, New York travels to face a Kentucky team they've beaten three times in the past four games since a 34-34 tie in 2006. South Bend and Washington face each other for the first time since 2001, while Arizona and Casper tangle for a shot at the top spot in the Central Division. |
