Washington and Florida Face Off in American Bowl XVII
December 8, 2008
A Derrick Mason touchdown on Sunday put the Florida Fierce Flaming Flamingos ahead to stay in a 45-42 win over the rival New York Knights. Rookie RB Chris Johnson's 10 points helped lead the way, with Florida PK Neil Rackers adding 10 more.

The win puts Florida into the championship game for the first time since 2003 when they suffered a heartbreaking 31-30 loss to Las Vegas and makes it their fifth championship game appearance.

Meanwhile, the Washington Warriors get a chance at back-to-back titles along with a shot at becoming the first team to earn their fourth championship. The Warriors got 17 points from RB DeAngelo Williams to erase an 11-point deficit in knocking off the Casper Big Dogs, 50-36.

Casper had built a 36-25 lead on Sunday thanks to 14 points from the Arizona Cardinals defense/special teams, but Williams came alive on Monday night and combined with WR Steve Smith to put up 25 points and send Washington to American Bowl XVII to face Florida.
